Description

Planting Beside The Werribee River

Cobbledicks Ford Reserve, Mt. Cotterell

planting at cobbledicks reserveYou are invited to plant beside the Werribee River at Cobbledicks Ford reserve, Mt Cottrell on the mornings of the Friday 6th and Saturday 7th MAY 9 - 12 noon

Wyndham Council has transformed this beautiful reserve, by planting local native plant species, especially adapted for the low-rainfall volcanic plains. It is now a very pleasant location to walk, hold a family picnic and play games with your children.

Some of the reserve was destroyed by commercial soil removal from the flood plain many years ago. Council and Pinkerton Landcare and Environment Group members have been collecting the local native seeds of native grasses, which are grown to maturity, and then re-planted on the flood plain, restoring it as a thriving understorey, which also has the benefit of providing seeds for birds and holding the soil down with strong roots during flooding events.

Everyone is most welcome to join us, any time between 9am - 12 noon, on either Friday 6 May, or Saturday 7th May, or both!
Meet at the bottom of the hill in the car park.

Bring your favourite spade if you wish, however, planting equipment will also be available.
Morning tea is provided.
